Book your next stay in Malaysia and enjoy the advantage of our partnerships with the country's foremost accommodations - personalized VIP service, complimentary upgrades, and the very best rates.

Beaches and skyscrapers. That's what you'll find in Malaysia, a tropical nation spanning the South China Sea. Let's start with the beaches, shall we?

There has been a kind of arms race among Malaysia's resorts since the country boomed towards the end of the 20th century. One introduces an 11-villa spa, so the next decides to offer elephant rides. Another introduces five-star dining, so a fourth fires back with an 18-hole championship golf course. It's a beautiful thing.

As for skyscrapers, no trip to Malaysia is complete without a stop in Kuala Lumpur, home of the Petronas Twin Towers. Many of the world's top hotel chains have established a presence in the city - Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott among them - so expect according luxury.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Saturday morning, a large crowd of Indians gathered the hotel where he will be staying during his visit, waiting to catch a glimpse of him. The cheering Indian diaspora were seen dressed up in traditional garb and were waiting outside the Hotel Renaissance with placards, banners and waving Indian flags. As the Prime Minister's car rolled in, the crowd burst out into chants of 'Modi Modi' as the security tried to contain the large crowd.

Malaysia's booming economic zone in Johor Bahru expands with ...

Wyndham Hotel Group today announced the signing of a new franchise agreement for the 322-room Ramada® Meridin Johor Bahru — the second Ramada to be announced for the booming city in just four months.

Scheduled to open in 2018, plans for the 26-storey hotel come on the heels of an earlier announcement in September for the development of the 322-room Ramada Encore Meridin Johor Bahru. Both hotels are being developed by Mah Sing Group and will be managed by leading property management firm Topotels.

"We see Johor Bahru as a prime location for our global portfolio and in particular our internationally Ramada brand, which is known for not only its excellent accommodations but also top tier destinations," said Barry Robinson, Wyndham Hotel Group's president and managing director, South East Asia and Pacific Rim.

Situated approximately 45 minutes from Singapore and less than a kilometre from popular international family theme park Legoland Malaysia, the Ramada Meridin Johor Bahru will be located within the city's Meridin Hotel Suites complex in Medini, a township development that will become a central business district in the newly created southern economic zone of Iskandar in Johor Bahru.

Iskandar is expected to eventually encompass an area approximately three times the size of Singapore and provide tourism, education, business and healthcare services, contributing to the rapid growth of Johor Bahru.

Once developed, the Ramada Meridin Johor Bahru will become the fifth Wyndham Hotel Group property to open in Malaysia.

So Much Fun at LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia! | Life in the Wee Hours

Last month, we drove over the Causeway and checked ourselves into LEGOLAND Hotel. We didn't tell the kids that we were headed there and once it came into view, they were beside themselves in excitement! We stayed here in December 2013 and since then, the kids have been asking to come back.

While we busied ourselves with checking in, the kids were playing to their hearts' content in the pirate ship and castle play areas in the lobby. The LEGO play areas are such a good idea because the kids are happily occupied while the parents handle the boring task of getting the room keys.

During our last visit, we stayed at the Adventure themed room so we decided to try out the Kingdom themed room this time around. I just love all the themed LEGO features in the room and the kids cannot get enough of their bunk beds and TV and LEGO set to play with. If not for the fact that the theme park is an even bigger draw, we may never be able to get them out of the room!

Of course, we adults also appreciate having a huge bed that we don't need to share with the kids and our own TV. For dinner, after a long day at both the water and theme parks, we ordered room service and chilled out in front of our respective TV sets before having a good night's sleep.

Special mention goes to the LEGOLAND Hotel themed lifts. Whenever we take the lifts up or down, the kids start dancing up a storm when the disco lights and music come on. Even the adults can't help grooving to the beat!

Breakfast in the LEGOLAND Hotel Bricks Family Restaurant is a decent affair and there is a good variety of food available from the typical continental breakfast sort of bread, eggs and sausages, to nasi lemak for those who prefer something local. It can get crowded and a queue may form during the busiest period in the morning but the kids will be kept entertained by the large foam bricks in the area just outside the restaurant.

It just makes perfect sense to stay at LEGOLAND Hotel when you are visiting the theme park and water park so that the kids can play all afternoon, check into the hotel and have a wee nap, continue playing their heart out, and then have a good night's rest without anyone having to drive or take the bus all the way back to Singapore after a long tiring day. Can't wait to come back again and the next time, we'll probably book the Pirate themed room!
