A stay at LEGOLAND hotel in Malaysia - Family Bloggerz Posted: 08 Jan 2015 02:16 PM PST Holidays are a vital part of life: not just for a change of scenery and the chance to do something different, out of the normal, but also for the opportunity to recharge your batteries and spend essential time to bond with your family. Recently, my family and I had the opportunity to spend some time at the LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia. The lobby was downright fantastic, and everything was LEGO themed as it was suggested. The staff and decorators definitely paid a great deal of attention to detail.
We checked in and were given our key cards to our room. So we walked to the elevator where there was some kinda cheesy elevator music and a disco party that began each time you are in the elevator until you reach your floor. Once the elevator door opens we were greeted by a LEGO Indiana Jones type of statue welcoming us as we were assigned to Adventure rooms. We had quite a little trek trying to look for our rooms and the hotel corridor was quite long but we found our rooms amidst scorpions, Anubis and beetles.
When we got inside our room I was just as amazed and fascinated as my little girl, the wallpaper was fantastic, with maps and hints of pyramids, desert and such. There was a huge Monkey King lego statue on a box which was suppose to be a locked treasure chest and adventure themed items all around the room. There was a very comfortable king sized bed for the adults and a totally separate room with bunk beds for kids, and below the bottom bunk is also a bed tucked underneath that rolls out making 3 beds in the room if required. My little girl (ok, she is 10 and not so little) was thrilled when she spotted the map on the desk in our 'room' for her scavenger hunt . She had to count a few things to get the combination number so that she can use that number to open the 'locked treasure chest' the Monkey King was guarding. Inside the locked treasure chest was an adorable LEGO figurine keychain and a LEGOLAND notebook. There was also a huge box of Duplos for the kids to play with. That was really an awesome experience for her which she was quite thrilled about, besides having the bunk bed all to herself and also her personal TV with Disney Channel and Nickelodeon on… so no need to fight for the remote control with Mummy and Daddy who get their own TV in their own room too!!! You really have to expect noise and kids everywhere, especially in the lobby area, and the restaurant too, as there is a huge pirate ship there and also a LEGO castle with its dragon. Its definitely a hotel where kids can be kids and adults don't have to stress too much about them running around having a good time.
Breakfast at the Bricks restaurant is complimentary and it is also a small adventure as you encounter various LEGO figurines all around the restaurant in your quest for your breakfast and the food is pretty good, served on colourful plastic plates and cups. My husband definitely loved watching the kids having the time of their lives there…. to him, it was a heart warming sight watching kids being kids and enjoying themselves. I would definitely recommend staying here if you have kids and if you are a big kid at heart. Two thumbs up! |
The Armenian Street Heritage Hotel in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia Posted: 20 Oct 2014 04:43 PM PDT Every time I travel somewhere new, aside from sharing my adventures, travel tips and the interesting foods I eat I also enjoy sharing with you where I get to stay. From sketchy hostels to the best hostels in the world, to sketchy hotels on the outskirts of Rome to the highest of luxury in South Africa. To me personally a good hotel room and bed to sleep in, although it's not everything, can definitely make or break a trip. Today in my "Where She Stayed" series I bring you a lovely hotel that I stayed in, in the city of Georgetown, on the island of Penang in Malaysia. Looking for an affordable, comfortable, modern and centrally located place to stay when visiting the island of Penang in Malaysia? (Gotta love those buzzwords) I highly recommend that you check out the Armenian Street Heritage Hotel, located in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage area of the city of Georgetown. If you are looking for a spa or beach accommodation this isn't the place for you (although Penang is small so the beach isn't too far away). However this hotel is perfect if you are wanting to scour the streets for interesting street art, or eat some of the very best food from the many hawker stalls nearby. A model poses next to the "Kids on a Bicycle" 3D street art on display in Georgetown by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic. While in Penang I had the chance to stay here for two nights and it was a perfect location. Exit the door and around the corner to the right and you are in the heart of the UNESCO area of Georgetown where you can get lost roaming the streets for hours in search of all of the city's interesting street art. Myself and my friend Raymond spent a full day doing just this and you can see more of my photos HERE. However you might want to avoid going there at the hottest time of the year like I did. Possibly avoid traveling there in April unless you like turning to mush and sweating to death. Delicious Penang street food – Penang is said to be the foodie centre of all of Malaysia. If you exit the hotel and head to the left you will find a few Hawker stalls on the street bunched together that share an indoor space with tables to dine at. I highly recommend getting the Char Kway Teow from these guys. Delicious! If you are looking for a few more options than what these stalls have to offer not to far on foot or close by in a cab is the street Lebuh Chulia where there are a bunch of hawker stalls right in the street that have tables set up outside along an alleyway. These stalls pretty much have every kind of Malaysian food you can ask for, cold tiger beers, delicious fruit juices and more. Special thanks to the Armenian Street Heritage Hotel for hosting my stay, as always all opinions and views expressed are my own. |
